JUST OUTSIDE THE TOP TEN FOR NEWGARDEN

Josef Newgarden narrowly missed out on a top ten finish in the second race from Silverstone, after he brought his Carlin GP3 car home in a respectable 11th place.

Starting from 16th on the grid, the 19 year-old American racer got a fantastic launch off the line but a stalled car just ahead of him forced Newgarden to jump on the brakes to avoid a collision. Nevertheless, he had a stunning first few laps and by the beginning of lap three was up to 13th.

Battling hard for position, Nigel Melker (RSC Mucke Motorsport) tried to squeeze down the inside of Newgarden but in the absence of enough track for both cars, the pair made light contact as they exited the corner. Newgarden continued without issue, chasing down Pål Varhaug (Jenzer Motorsport) for 12th place.

Newgarden finished the 14-lap race in 11th place - ending the weekend with a solid result, just outside the top ten.

Reflecting on the Silverstone event, Newgarden said: "I felt much happier out there today I got a great start and it was apparent in the first few laps that I was more comfortable in the car. It's really all about qualifying for us, so that's something we need to really focus on at the next event. If we can get that right, I know everything else will come together."

The GP3 Series now heads to Germany where Newgarden will compete around the Hockenheim circuit on 23, 24 and 25 July.
