WICKENS ENDS YEAR ON A HIGH WITH MONZA WIN

Status Grand Prix's Robert Wickens ended the GP3 Series in perfect fashion with victory in the weekend's second race at Monza, which cemented Status Grand Prix's second place in the teams' championship.

The Canadian driver, who yesterday secured his runner-up spot in the drivers' standings with a second position, went one place better today courtesy of a stunning start. From seventh place on the reverse grid, his perfect getaway allowed him to go into the first corner in second place, and he then passed leader Nico Muller before the next chicane to take first place.

There may have been seven lead changes in yesterday's race, but once out front today Wickens was never headed. The 21-year-old did not put a wheel wrong as he maintained a small cushion to the slipstreaming pack behind for all 15 laps to take his third victory of the season in commanding style.

GMH Motorsport-backed driver Daniel Morad also finished his season in strong style. The Canadian- Lebanese driver got a good start to rise from ninth on the grid to seventh, and had the leaders in his sights in the opening exchanges. However, he became embroiled in a heated battle with MW Arden duo Miki Monras and Leonardo Cordeiro, and although he re-passed the latter for seventh with four laps to go, he ran out of time to catch the cars in front, thus just missing out on a points-scoring position.

Marussia Motors development driver Ivan Lukashevich had one of his strongest races of the year, rising from 19th on the grid up to 15th in the early laps. The 19-year-old then began a heated battle with polesitter Nigel Melker, and although he lost out on the penultimate lap he rounded out his season with a fighting 14th place.

The Driver's View

Robert Wickens (CAN): Result: 1st. Best lap: 1m44.44s, +0.599s. Championship: 71pts, 2nd
"This was a fantastic result for me and the team. I can honestly say it was the perfect race - a really good start and then not a single mistake meant I kept them all behind me. Second place yesterday and first today equates to our best weekend of the year, which shows we've been genuine title contenders throughout. "

Daniel Morad (LIB): Result: 7th. Best lap: 1m44.79s, +0.947s. Championship: 15pts, 12th
"I had really good speed today and felt comfortable on the same pace as the leaders. I then made a slight error to run wide and that embroiled me in the MW Arden battle, but this is still a competitive end to the year."

Ivan Lukashevich (RUS): Result: 14th. Best lap: 1m44.99s, +1.146s. Championship: 0pts, 32nd
"Again this was such an exhilarating race, and I felt I really held my ground in all the midfield battles. To finish the season with a result in the top half of the field on merit feels good and propels towards next season."
