Hungary GP3: Ceccon wins race two as poleman Fuoco crashes out

Kevin Ceccon repeated his race two victory from Silverstone at the Hungaroring on Sunday morning to score his second GP3 Series win of the season.

From reversed-grid pole, Antonio Fuoco lost out at the start to Ceccon and instead raced wheel-to-wheel into Turn 2 with Emil Bernstorff.

Fuoco then attacked Ceccon at Turn 4, but major contact with Bernstorff at the chicane seconds later sent Fuoco slamming into the barrier, with Bernstorff also out with shattered suspension.

The shunt required a safety car to clean up the wreckage.

At the restart, Ceccon led Ocon, Jimmy Eriksson, yesterday’s winner Luca Ghiotto and Matt Parry.

Parry pulled a great move to pass Ghiotto for fourth, which started at Turn 1 and was completed at Turn 2.

Ceccon pulled away up front with a sequence of quick laps, but only won by 0.7s as Ocon put in a final change and closed right up in the closing corners with fastest lap which scored him an extra two points.

Behind Ocon, Eriksson held off teammate Parry for third, with Ghiotto a distant fourth.

Marvin Kirchhofer pulled off a fine move to pass Pal Varhaug around the outside of Turn 12 for sixth, but that was eclipsed by Matheo Tuscher overtaking Adderly Fong around the outside of Turn 5 for 10th.

Eriksson was later awarded a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him to sixth behind Parry, Ghiotto and Kirchhofer.
