Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the GP3 Race 1 press conference in Budapest. Joining us today is race winner Nico Muller from Jenzer, Esteban Gutierrez from ART and Stefano Coletti for Tech 1 Racing.
GP3 Series: Nico congratulations a strong win today. It looked like you got off the line well, but how was it from inside the car?
Nico Muller: Yes I had a pretty good start and I don't think Esteban did so I did a good first lap and built up a gap already. I then kept pushing a lot and the gap was quite constant until I made a mistake and he was then quite nears o from then on the pressure was higher but I stayed in my rhythm and the car felt good. I was constant and I managed to keep him behind.
GP3 Series: It seems like when you're out in front you hear every noise and feel every bump. Were you having any troubles with the car?
Nico Muller: No the car wasn't as good as in qualifying but I think that's normal. There weren't any technical issues and if you start thinking about things like this you lose your concentration so I try to stay focused on my job and managed to that quite well.
GP3 Series: Yes of course, and it's great for the championship, but what does this week mean for you and team?
Nico Muller: A lot, really a lot. My teammate won the first race in Barcelona, but this is another really proper win and we are very happy. We've been working hard throughout the season and managed to improve the car quite a bit, I feel comfortable with the car and this is the result. We are really, really happy.
GP3 Series: Esteban congratulations P2, although at the start it looked like it wasn't going to be your day. Talk us through it from your point of view.
Esteban Gutierrez: Yes it was quite challenging because it wasn't a really good start and on the first lap I was trying to keep my position in a very intelligent way. We had a good fight with Robert on the first corner. We are happy with the result because we also did the fastest lap time which gives us one more point, and this is the most important thing. We have done a lot of work this season and score from the beginning and now we have a big gap to take care of.
Esteban Gutierrez: Yes on the first lap I had a big gap and was pushing a lot but the tyres were having a lot of degradation and in the end I lost a lot of downforce and it was difficult.
GP3 Series: So are you thinking about the championship yet?
Esteban Gutierrez: I don't think about the championship. I am just trying to get as many points as possible. We're looking forward to the next two races, not only to win the championship but also to finish strongly.
GP3 Series: Stefano congratulations, you must be pleased with your podium today?
Stefano Coletti: Yes I'm very happy. It was tough at the start as I got a better start than Esteban but Robert got a better start than me, and unfortunately going into the first corner we all had the same line and I was on the outside so I had to let them both past and then went back to the inside for the next corner and got back my third place position. Esteban did a couple of mistakes in the first lap because he was trying to keep up with Muller. I tried to pass once or twice but he kept pulling away and there was nothing I could do I so I just kept my third place.
GP3 Series: It's a tight twisty circuit here, just how difficult is it to overtake?
Stefano Coletti: It's really hard and if you're quite close in the last corner, it's a long corner so you lose a lot of downforce, so unless the guy in front makes a mistake it's not easy to pass. I think there is still a possibility but it's very risky. I tried but I didn't want to make contact because third was already good for me.
GP3 Series: Yes a good result for you and for the team. Any thoughts on the race tomorrow?
Stefano Coletti: It's a big step forward since Hockenheim because we've improved the car a lot. It's getting better and we are more consistent and I think we have a lot to do for tomorrow because the car wasn't perfect but form sixth if I have good start maybe I will have another podium who knows.
