They say it just takes one lap. That's all American Conor Daly did at speed this afternoon in Spa, Belgium after experiencing gearbox troubles throughout the 45 minute session. Daly missed the first 15 minutes with a malfunctioning gear selection issue. When he did appear on track the gearbox would still not select gears as needed. After multiple pit stops to try to rectify the issue, Daly was lapping more than three seconds off the pace. With just minutes left he was sent out on a new set of tires and one lap later had vaulted to the top of the time charts.
Daly will qualify Saturday morning at 9:45 AM local time with race one taking place at 5:20 PM local time.
Daly drives for the French based ART Grand Prix team, which is regarded as one of Europe's best junior teams. Past drivers to have gone through ART include current Formula One drivers such as; Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Adrian Sutil, Jules Bianchi and Paul DiResta.
GP3 is part of the Formula One support program with all races except Valencia taking place at rounds of the Formula One World Championship. The final rounds will be held in Abu Dhabi on November 1st-3rd.
GP3 has no television coverage in the US, however if you search on-line, (GP3 Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium) there are multiple Euro sites that live stream the races.
