Mickey Finn to back Robert Wickens in GP3 Series
Barcelona, Spain, 7th May 2010: Famed Irish liquor Mickey Finn is to step into the motorsport arena for the first time in 2010 after parent company BABCO Europe Limited agreed a deal to sponsor Canadian star Robert Wickens in this year's GP3 Series.
Wickens' GP3 car, run by Ireland's premier race team and reigning A1GP World Cup champions Status Grand Prix, will feature the logo of Mickey Finn at all the eight Formula One Grand Prix events across Europe where the GP3 Series will race, starting at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
Mickey Finn, a popular natural-flavoured liquor made from pressed apples, is one of the premium brands within the portfolio of BABCO, one of the Europe's fastest growing beverage companies. The GP3 Series calendar takes Wickens to race in several key markets for Mickey Finn, including Spain and the UK, while the 21-year-old's Canadian nationality is an added attraction for him to be an ambassador to the brand.
Babco CEO Mark Wilson said: "Mickey Finn, Robert and the Status GP team are a perfect blend - and give each other considerable synergy. Never mind the fact that one of my personal passions is F1 racing, BABCO is doubly delighted that our GP3 Series sponsorship gives us the opportunity to further the needed message of responsible drinking. The website www.drinkaware.co.uk should be part of the daily curriculum for all in the drinks business."
Ontario native Wickens, who is widely recognised in Canada as the country's next F1 star, is entering his third full season of racing in Europe having been runner-up in the FIA Formula Two Championship last year. He has targeted winning the GP3 Series as his springboard to F1.
"I'm privileged that BABCO is getting behind me with its Mickey Finn brand and helping make my season possible," said Wickens. "It's an exciting, young company and I believe we can achieve a lot together this year."
