GP2 STAR BRATT ENJOYS GUEST APPEARANCE AT AUTOSPORT INTERNATIONAL
Aspiring Formula One driver Will Bratt made his first public appearance of 2010 on Friday, 15th January, during the Autosport International Show at Birmingham's NEC -- Europe's largest motor racing exhibition.
The GP2 Asia Series star, and reigning Euroseries 3000 Champion, took part in a live interview with Autosport Magazine's Henry Hope-Frost on the central Autosport Stage to discuss his 2009 title-winning season and subsequent graduation to premier F1 feeder category GP2.
Banbury-based Will, who races for the Party Poker Racing.com Scuderia Coloni team in GP2, is one of the UK's fastest and most promising young drivers aiming for a future in the FIA Formula One World Championship -- as acknowledged by Autosport Magazine in its 'Britain's Next Formula One Star' feature a week ago.
"Autosport International is always a great show", says Will, "It was good being centrally involved on the main stage to talk about my championship-winning season and to also look ahead to the next round of the GP2 Asia Series in a few weeks.
"The last 12 months have been fantastic for me, winning the Euroseries 3000 title and the prize drive in GP2 Asia was amazing but to do so alongside completing my degree at Oxford University really did cap things off perfectly. It was a dream year but I intend to try and work even harder this year to move closer to my goal of competing in Formula One."
Bratt closes on top 200 in prestigious Castrol Rankings In addition to his appearance at the 20th anniversary Autosport International Show, Will also learned he is currently ranked a highly creditable 221st in the world in the prestigious Castrol Rankings -- an innovative new seeding system for racing drivers which was launched at Autosport International by multiple Grand Prix winner David Coulthard.
Powered by Autosport.com, the Castrol-backed system aims to measure the recorded performances of 2,000 of the world's top drivers before allocating a weekly score to each competitor. Alongside categories like Formula One, the FIA World Rally Championship, the IndyCar Series and the Le Mans Series, championships such as GP2, Formula 2 and Formula 3 are among those included.
Due to Will's outstanding season in Euroseries 3000 (which has been re-branded AutoGP for 2010), he is currently a very healthy 221st in the table with 3,944 points. Clearly, the GP2 Asia racer will be aiming to close further on the coveted top 200 during the next two rounds of his current campaign at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on Friday, 5th February, and Saturday, 6th February.
Having raced internationally for the past two seasons only, Will's position in the rankings among global stars such as current F1 World Champion Jenson Button and his predecessor Lewis Hamilton is all the more impressive.
Will said: "The Castrol Rankings are a fantastic idea and I was pleased to see I'm pretty close to the top 200 drivers in the world. Obviously, my aim is to break into the top 200 as quickly as possible so a couple of good results during the next two GP2 Asia races won't do me any harm at all!"
