Venezuelan racer Ernesto Viso achieved today his second season victory in the sprint race of the GP2 Series at Circuit de Catalunya, in Barcelona. After a hard battle with podium finishers Nelson A. Piquet and yesterday`s winner, Alexandre Premat, Viso took the top honor today.
Viso took advantage of his starting condition to lead the field from the very start in Montmelo and was able to hold off the pressure of Piquet and Premat in the final laps of the competition.
"The car was good, I drove very well I think, I'm very happy with the team and the guys are doing a really good job, and I think we can do a really good job for the rest of the season", commented the winner.
After 26 laps of relentless pressure Viso claimed the win ahead of Piquet, Premat and Hamilton, with the four drivers split by just 2.3 seconds.
Further back Gommendy was fifth for his second points score in as many races, while Monfardini picked up the final point with Gimmi Bruni also scoring for the fastest lap of the race.
The podium finish for Piquet meant the Brazilean regained the championship lead over Hamilton by 39 points to 37, ahead of Premat with 27, Viso has 26 and Lapierre 25.
"The fight between Lewis and me is going to be very interesting, and it will be very strong throughout the year", Piquet stated.
Premat closed a fantastic weekend with third place after victory on Saturday`s long race. "I think it was a really good weekend, and the car was really good in race one and race two, so I think this is the comeback of Alex Premat".
GP2 ended-up it fourth doble round and is now heading to street circuit of Monaco for a single-weekend race on May 27th. The tight turns will be the scenary for a sure another strong fight for a victory that every driver wants to get.
