DPR COLLECTS MORE CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS IN VALENCIA

29 September 2007.../David Price Racing (DPR) added more points to the scoreboard in Valencia today at the final round of the 2007 GP2 Series. Andy Soucek finished sixth in the Feature race, the penultimate race of the season. Team mate, Christian Bakkerud, was an innocent victim of a racing incident which put him out of the race on lap ten.

The finale of the 2007 GP2 Series, taking place at the Spanish circuit in Valencia headlines the weekend, while the Formula One Grand Prix takes place in Fuji, Japan, the Series which GP2 regularly supports. Valencia is familiar territory for Soucek who has raced at the venue throughout his career. His experience helped him to show strong pace in the practice sessions yesterday, with him following this up with 15th place on the grid after qualifying. Bakkerud's day was less successful yesterday, with his qualifying position of 26th place resulting from a rare and uncharacteristic mechanical error in the car setup which slowed the Dane's pace.

The Feature race today was shaped in part by the changing weather conditions. Tyre choice was key to success and DPR had the right strategy to fit with the weather. As the grid was forming rain started to fall and the team opted to start on wet weather tyres. The team planned to stop early in the event that the track dried out, but a further bout of rain delayed their stop. Timing was all-important and with DPR bringing Soucek in from ninth place, after a strong start from the young Austro-Spanish driver, he was able to rejoin in 12th.

Over the course of the remainder of the race Soucek was running a strong pace and able to challenge for position. A mix of overtaking and benefiting from others mistakes resulted in Soucek finishing in a strong sixth place. The reverse grid format for the top eight gives him a third place start for tomorrow's sprint event, and the potential for further championship points.

Bakkerud's fortunes continued unchanged for the Feature race. The Dane, after making a good start and taking two places, was up to 17th position after only nine laps. Unfortunately that's as far as he was able to go, after Alexandre Negrao ran into the back of him pushing him off the circuit and into the gravel, from where he was stranded.

David Price, Team Principal, DPR, said, "We started collecting points very late in the season and they've kept coming now! Andy did well to drive through to sixth place, surviving a fairly chaotic start. The weather added an extra dimension today and the DPR team worked hard and effectively to assist Andy with a good race strategy. Starting third should give us another shot at the podium, which would be the perfect finish for our season. Our fingers are crossed!"

The final race of the 2007 GP2 Series season takes place at the Valencia circuit tomorrow.
