BRITISH DRIVER BEGINS TITLE HUNT

Great Britain's Adam Carroll begins his challenge for the coveted GP2 title in Spain this weekend. The feeder series to Formula One has already provided five drivers to the F1 paddock after just one year of running. Now Adam hopes this year will be his big opportunity. The 23 year old, from Portadown, Northern Ireland won the first round of last year's championship in Imola before going on to claim victory in the famous streets of Monaco and the infamous rainstorms of Spa. Now with a change of team to Spanish outfit Racing Engineering, he hopes 2006 can be his year. "I have no excuses -- this year I must win the title.

You can't keep coming back for more attempts and with Racing Engineering, Telefonica and Repsol backing me, I probably won't have a better chance," said Carroll. "It's true we've had some character building pre-season tests but I think it's the same for many teams. GP2 is more competitive than last year and the changes to the cars have really made the drivers work harder. We have lost about 18 per cent rear down force and yet due to the slick tyres, we are still going 3 seconds faster. Hopefully my F1 test experience and last year's championship results will give me an edge over my rivals." Valencia is not only the first round, but was also the final pre-season test of 2006. After this stand alone round, normal service is resumed and GP2 follows Formula One to all the European venues.
