Stefano Coletti is still classification leader with 135 points. Nasr follows at 130, Leimer at 128 and Bird at 121.
Tyres wearing has played a major role this morning in Stefano Coletti's Sprint Race in Spa (B) during the eighth round of the GP2 Series 2013.
Starting from the ninth lap the classification leader started suffering a strong tyres degradation that forced him first to increase his race pace and then to give away some positions. Eventually he was forced to a pit stop that made him slip down to the twenty-third final place.
The race was won by James Calado (ART Grand Prix), ahead of Julian Leal (Racing Engineering) and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs (Hilmer Motorsport). As regarding the title contenders, Fabio Leimer (Racing Engineering) ended fifth, Felipe Nasr (Carlin) eighth, while Sam Bird (Russian Time) crossed the finish line in fourteenth.
Coletti is still classification leader with 135 points. Nasr follows at 130, Leimer at 128 and Bird at 121.
Stefano Coletti: "We knew tyres management would have been one of the most critical aspects of the race but the strategy followed in the Main Race made softs the only option available to us, while other drivers had the chance to wear hards. Despite the final result, the car was better than yesterday and setup-wise we found a good starting base for Monza. The season is now going to be a mini-championship on three races with four drivers involved in the title fight: it is gonna be an interesting challenge that we will start preparing from next Tuesday on".
The GP2 Series will be back on track next 8 September in Monza.
