The third round of the 2011 GP2 Main Series was completed today at the Monte Carlo street-course with the running of Race 2. Trident Racing's Rodolfo Gonzalez cruised to finish in 14th place, while Stefano Coletti, who had taken-off from the 2th spot on the grid, was forced to retire by brake issues.
The GP2 Main Series teams and drivers will now have four weeks of rest. The championship will be back from June 24 to 26 on the Valencia street course for the fourth round of the season.
Rodolfo Gonzalez (14th)
“In the early stages of today's race I was blocked by a car which was way slower than me. I tried to pass several times, but on this racetrack it's really tough to improve your position if one of your rivals doesn't make mistakes. Then after the safety-car period, I began experiencing some brake issues and everything started to become incredibly difficult. At that point my only goal was to get to the end and I did it despite some tense moments. I think we didn't get what we deserved this weekend, and I hope to rebound in the next round at Valencia.
Stefano Coletti (DNF)
“The race started in a bad way. At the start, my clutch overheated, and when the lights came off the engine stalled. I re-started far away from the pack, but I scored some great laptimes. When the Safety-Car came out, I was able to catch up but right after the re-start the braking power to fade progressively. When I got behind my team-mate, I even risked to hit him and since the points zone was almost unreachable, I decided to come back to the pits.”
