The final preseason test for the 2013 GP2 Series was completed today at Barcelona. Trident Racing fielded Rodolfo Gonzalez in all the three days while the second car was scheduled to be shared by Robin Frijns (Day 1 and 2) and Nathanael Berthon (Day 3).
Unfortunately, the session didn't prove shy of setbacks.
Gonzalez lined-up for the last day despite being in tough health conditions, but he managed to complete all the scheduled work in an extremely professional fashion.Berthon was prevented from hitting the track due to a contractual glitch related to his previous career experiences.
In the first two days Frijns confirmed the great impression he had left in the previous test at Jerez. The Dutchman kept his name in the top-10 easily and ended up Day 1 in third place overall.
A stunning result considering that he was driving a GP2 Series car just for the second time in his career.
Despite having driven during the last two segments while battling some flu symptoms, Gonzalez progressively improved his pace day by day. The Venezuelan racer was back on-track after a long break and regained the right chemistry with the car in a quick and flawless manner.
Trident Racing is now looking forward to the first round of the 2013 championship, scheduled in just about two weeks at the Malaysian Sepang circuit. The driver line-up for the season opener will be announced in the next few days.
