Trident Racing ended up the first race of the GP2 Main Series weekend with Stefano Coletti rounding out the top-10, while Rodolfo Gonzalez captured 20th.
The race itself was slowed down by two full-course caution situations. After having started in 8th, Coletti was off to a great start, as he moved on one of his rivals in the opening stages and entered the pits for his pit-stop in 7th at lap 17. In the closing laps though, Stefano was slowed down by an huge front tire wear, and kept losing positions before ending up in 10th. The day of Gonzalez was conditioned by a contact with a fellow rival happened just after the start. As a consequence, he was forced to an additional pit-stop and had to settle for 20th .
The closing run of the weekend is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:35, with live coverage in Italy by the RAI network.
Stefano Coletti, 10th
“It hasn't been a very lucky race for us today. The choice to change only our rear tires at the pit-stop didn't pay off and I had a tough time in taming my car when the front ones wore out. In addition to that, the second safety-car period wiped away my advantage on the following car and it's been hell difficult to defend my position. It's a pity, because I think we could have aimed at a points spot and at a good starting position for tomorrow”.
Rodolfo Gonzalez, 20th
“In the first stages of the race I touched with another car, damaging my front wing. Just a few laps after the pit-stop my front tires started to wear out, and when the safety car came in I entered the pit-lane for the second time to change them together with the front wint. I restarted last and at that point any chance for a top spot was compromised”.
