With just two weeks gone from the last GP2 Main Series round held at Istanbul, where the team scored a spectacular win, Trident Racing was back on-track today for the second meeting of the 2011 GP2 Main Series at Barcelona. On Qualifying, which opened the official on-track activity, Stefano Coletti managed to clock the 8th fastest laptime of the day, while Rodolfo Gonzalez ended up in 18th.
Coletti logged his fastest lap on his first set of new tires, while just a fer drivers managed to improve on their second run due to a progressive increase in atmospheric temperature.
The first race of the weekend is set to start tomorrow at 15:40, while race 2 will be kicking-off on Sunday at 10:35. Both this weekend's heats will benefit from a wide international TV Coverage, while the RAI network will televise both race 1 (RaiSportSat) and race 2 (RAI2) live in Italy.
Stefano Coletti, 8th (1:30.974)
“Today's one has been my best qualifying session so far this season. Maybe we could have achieved something more, but we paid the price of a change in the weather conitions between free practice and qualifying. I tried to improve my best lap with my second set of tires but it proved impossible. Tomorrow I expect a tough race, with the most important variable being the management of tires”.
Rodolfo Gonzalez, 18th (1’31”964)
“Compared to Istanbul I found a good feel with the car. I think it has really improved in suiting my driving style, and I really liked the overall balance. Unfortunately, with my second set of tires I faced a lot of traffic. However, I'm quite confident for tomorrow's race 2. I believe that with a good management of tires and without incidents we'll be able to aim at a points spot”.
