HO-PIN TUNG STAYS COOL AT TRICKY SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS

A disappointing 16th and 10th place finish were the results for Dutch-Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung in this weekend GP2 races at the famous Spa-Francorchamps racetrack. Saturday's mainrace showed much more promise than the final result showed. The Trident Team made the decision to change to slick tyres too late as the track was drying very quickly. "The drivers on slicks flew by, I lost 11 seconds per lap,'says the angry driver. In the second race on Sunday he had some interesting battles on the race track. He gained a few places and lost a few which Ho-Pin Tung called "a yo-yo race" and resulted in 10th place finish for him.

The qualifying session took place in wet conditions. The car had to be adjusted to the wet conditions by the team. "Soon the red flag came out and during the rest of the session we had yellow flags every single lap'says Ho-Pin. The mainrace on Saturday started behind the safety car. At the end of the first lap Ho-Pin already gained six places and made good progress until the track started to dry. Ho-Pin: 'Let's just say we made a tactical error in coming in so late for dry tyres. The race on sunday morning again was chaotic due to the weather. The Chinese made a rare poor start but soon started to work his way up. A 10th place finish at the end was his reward.
