Lapierre dominates Spa feature race
Nicolas Lapierre scored his second GP2 Series victory of the season at Spa-Francorchamps, dominating the feature race from start to chequered flag.
Starting on pole position, Nicolas had to hold off the challenge of di Grassi and Filippi at the first corner. They were almost three abreast, but Lapierre turned on to the inside line. Then, Di Grassi maintained the pressure and attacked the leader on lap eight, but Nicolas held on to the outside line and got better drive off the corner. Nicolas drove superbly the whole race. The good pit stop strategy combined with a perfect tyres change from the mechanics allowed him to keep the lead of the race. Finally, he crossed the chequered flag with a 4.8 seconds lead on the second one.
Kazuki had an unfortunate start of the race with his engine stalling on the grid. Despite dropping to the tail of the field, he was very quick and grabbed many positions. When battling for the fastest lap, he had to retire because of a technical problem.
Nicolas Lapierre: "I'm very happy of my victory. Starting from pole position and winning the feature race on that difficult track is a very good result for me and for the team. I did an excellent race without any mistakes. The pitstop strategy was excellent as I increase the gap with the other competitors. The car was oversteering with the first set of tyres but balance was perfect after the pit stop. There are still three races remaining till the end of the championship, I wish to grab some more successes."
Kazuki Nakajima: "I missed my start, stalling on the grid. Then, I pushed hard to regain the lost positions. The car was really well balance and I think I had good chances to challenge for fastest lap. As I was retired, I will start from the back of the grid tomorrow. The car should be quick and I will do my best to win places."
