Frustrating Qualifying session for Clivio
As heavy rain fell on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Belgium, Clivio posted the 14th fastest time of the afternoon in an incident-filled Qualifying session for Round 11 of the GP2 Championship.
The thirty-minute session was red-flagged three times for incidents involving Lapierre, Rosberg and Pantano. With five minutes remaining, Clivio went out for his final flying lap and set the fastest first two sector times of the day before spinning on track as he entered the last straight.
Clivio will start from the seventh row of the grid for the first race of the weekend alongside Olivier Pla.
"I'm pretty disappointed as I felt I had a really good chance of pole position for tomorrow's race.
The conditions were really tough as it was extremely wet which made it hard to get a fast lap in as the spray from the cars in front made visibility very bad. Throughout the whole session, the car was looking really strong but I kept getting blocked at the Bus Stop so I couldn't get a clear run early on. Towards the end, Lapierre and Rosberg both span so the session was stopped twice soon after each other. When I went out again five minutes before the end, I was actually two tenths faster than everyone in the first two sectors. Then I hit the curb on the turn going into the last straight and lost it. The car spun and that was the end of the session for me. At that point I was a tenth of a second faster than P1 so its really frustrating."
