Bad Luck prevents Alvaro Parente from shine

After showing an impressive pace in the morning practice, that marked his return to the GP2 Series, Alvaro Parente saw his performance in the qualifying for the Spa-Francorchamps' race conditioned by mechanicals gremlins and by the large number of red flags showed.

The return from the Portuguese youngster to the championship that gave to Formula 1 a large number of its actual drivers began on high as in the practice, which was held in a wet track, he was the third fastest, being beaten just by Pastor Maldonado and Dani Clos, first and third, respectively, in the drivers' standings.

With this result Alvaro Parente tackled the qualifying with optimism, as the qualifying would be held, also, in a wet track. However, four red flags during a thirty minute session prevented him from doing more than one real flying lap, something that, along with a mechanical problem, put him in the sixteenth place of the grid. "It was a very strange qualifying and very frustrating. Every time I was on a flying lap someone would go off track and I had to abort my lap - it was frustrating! To make everything even harder, my car engine was working in just seven cylinders. With these circumstances it was hard to do better, but we had the potential to do much more, as we showed in the morning practice", underlined the driver that won last year's Spa-Francorchamps main race.

Though he didn't had an easy day today, the Portuguese driver points out that tomorrow it will a new opportunity, but he knows that he will have a tough task. "It will be a hard race, because we will start from the middle of the pack and it's easy to have a small contact. We showed that we can be competitive in the wet, but it's very difficult to race in the spray, mainly in this kind of circuit, as the water lift by the cars remains in the air for many time. The only thing that I can say is that I'll give my best and I'll try to grab any opportunity that may arise", guaranteed Alvaro Parente.
