VITALY PETROV AND DAVIDE VALSECCHI FORCED TO RETIRE IN SPA

BAD LUCK FOR THE BARWA ADDAX TEAM IN BELGIUM

Barwa Addax Team had a very unfortunate race today, in the GP2 Series, with both drivers, Vitaly Petrov and Davide Valsecchi, forced to retire from the event, at the Belgian circuit of Spa Francorchamps. It turned out to be a hard race on the engines and the mechanics of the cars today, as nearly half the field was forced to retire, before the end of the race.

Vitaly Petrov had the misfortune of suffering from yet another engine failure, the same as in Budapest in the event before last, which left him without any points in Hungary,. After a good weekend in Valencia, at the Europa Grand Prix, fate has struck another cruel blow. It really has been a question of bad luck, a faulty drive propeller, which has meant two weekends and four races out of the points. At this stage of the season, it has really spoilt what has been a fantastic championship and reduced his chances of winning the championship. After the great season he has had up to now, Petrov can consider himself to be very unfortunate. We can only hope that the last two events, in Italy and Portugal, will be incident free and that the Russian driver still has a victory or two up his sleeve.

Davide Valsecchi did not have much luck either. As he was coming out of a corner he unavoidably shunted a stationary car, that had been involved in an accident, and was forced to retire, when he was about halfway down the field. In these races with a big field, if you don't qualify in the first two or three rows, these incidents tend to occur. Hopefully he will show signs of progress in the following races.

Tomorrow's second race will start at 10.30 hrs local time and will be raced over 18 laps covering a distance of 125.984 Kms
