VITALY KEEPS UP THE PRESSURE WITH NICO. JUST FIVE HUNDREDTHS OF A SECOND SEPERATE BOTH DRIVERS

HE STARTS FROM THE THIRD ROW OF THE GRID, VALSECCHI FROM THE NINTH.

This weekend sees the eighth GP2 Series event get under way at the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. After this morning's free practice session in wet conditions, the drivers were able to get through the official qualifying session on a dry track. Vitaly Petrov completed the qualifiers in fifth position and will start tomorrow's first race just behind the leader of the event. Davide Valsecchi finished the session in 17th position.

It was a hard fought and very competitive session throughout. Only two tenths of a second separate the first six drivers, with just three tenths separating the first eight. The first three drivers in the overall rankings are in the same tenth of a second and the leader is barely five hundredths of a second ahead of the Barwa Addax Team driver. Vitaly Petrov missed out on a second row place by a mere two thousandths of a second, so it seems that we are almost guaranteed an exciting and highly competitive battle. We hope, as in recent races, to be treated to a great contest by the leaders. Vitaly is confident about his chances tomorrow and felt that he would have managed an even better time, if he hadn't been slightly hampered by another driver in the second sector, after having improved on his time in the first sector.

Davide Valsecchi continues in his efforts to adapt to the new team and the car. He seems to be gaining in confidence but last week's race in Valencia didn't quite go as planned, after he was forced to retire with mechanical problems at the start of the second race. The free practice in the wet and the qualifiers in the dry meant that he was unable to get any sort of consistency and couldn't take advantage of the little time spent in the car. It can only be hoped that he is able to complete both races this weekend at Spa and thus demonstrate his true talent in the Barwa Addax Team.

Tomorrow's first race will start at 16.00 hrs local time and will be over 26 laps of the 7,004 metre circuit, covering a distance of 181.980 Kms.
