The fourth round of the 2009 GP2 Main Series season took off yesterday at Silverstone. On the British racetrack, the morning practice left space to Qualifying: at the end of the session, Davide Rigon clocked a fastest lap of 1:27.086, enabling him to start from row 7 in tomorrow's Race 1.
Ricardo Teixeira was much less lucky, as his session was conditioned by an early mistake. At his first lap, he made contact with Rigon in the attempt of moving on another car. He suffered from a damaged wing but, despite he managed to restart his engine, track marshals didn't allow him to get back on-track.
Rigon, who ended up spinning but suffered no damage. With his first set of tires, the driver from Vicenza successfully entered the top-10, but paid the price of high traffic in the second part of the session, failing to improve his position despite clocking the fastest time on Sector 3. Race 1, starting today at 16:00 CET, will be televised live by Sky Sport in Italy. Race 2 will be taking off on Sunday morning.
Davide Rigon. "I had a pretty big scare at the first lap, when I was hit from behind, but I just had a puncture and I was able to continue almost easily. The following stages were really grueling, and with the first set of tires things went on good. I found a good feeling with the track, but a slower cars got me struggling in my best attempt. I'm happy with how the car handles in the slower corners, while I feel we can solve some problems in the faster corners. I'm really looking forward to the remainder of the weekend"
Ricardo Texeira. "I'm really disappointed for what happened in qualifying, since I haven't actually taken any part in it. At my first lap, I went too long at the Abbay corner while passing Andreas Zuber. Probably also due to the cold brakes, I made contact with Davide, damaging my front wing. The problem itself wasn't bad enough to stop me but, after I was pushed and refired the engiens, the marshals forbid me to come back on-track. I expect two tough races, as a result of today's happenings. I'll be able to count on two set of new tires though, in the attempt to move my way back to where I belong."
