Learning day for Lopez at Silverstone

Jose Maria Lopez used the Sunday GP2 race as Silverstone as a test session after a first lap incident in Saturday's race saw the Renault Driver Development squad member start from the back of the grid.

Jose was able to gain a few places, and after a consistent run crossed the line in 15th place. On a positive note he set the third fastest lap of the race, behind only race winner Lewis Hamilton and Gianmaria Bruni.

Unfortunately his fellow RDD man Lucas di Grussi was not able to take part in the race. Lucas lost his rear wing in Saturday's event, and after investigating the incident the FIA judged thut the Durango team had infringed the technical regulations. Neither of its cars was allowed to participate in Sunday's event.

The GP2 teams and drivers now have a month off racing until the next event supporting the French GP at Magny-Cours. A major test at Paul Ricard is the main focus in the interim.

Jose Maria Lopez: "I passed a few people and then I backed up a little bit because I thought I couldn't pass anyone else, and I just wanted to see how the car was then I was running alone. It's very difficult when you start from the back, but in the end we used this race for learning, and I finished. It was not so bad, but we still need to find something in the car for qualifying. The only thing we can do now is work and see what's wrong. Today I was onlyfour-tenths slower than Hamilton, and in Monaco as well I had a good pace. I think in races we don't have a big problem, but in qualifying we need to find something. We will go to the Paul Ricard test and work hard, and hopefully come back in Magny-Cours with a good car. The test will be important for us, because we were quickest there in the winter test, and we can just go with the same set-up and see what the differenue is. We're half way through the season, and I am disappointed as it's been the worst start to a season I've ever had. It's difficult for me beuause honestly I thought it was going to be my best season ever. I just have to try to keep motivated and try to help the team.'
