Clivio claims three championship points with 6th place finish

Clivio Piccione finished the first race in 6th position after a solid performance at the Silverstone circuit to secure a further three Championship points for the Durango team. He will start tomorrow's sprint race from the second row of the grid alongside Neel Jani.

From 10th on the grid, Clivio made a good start and drove a steady race to move up to 4th position by the end of lap 11 as the frontrunners completed their mandatory pitstops.

As the race reached the halfway point, leaders Rosberg, Kovalainen and then Carroll all came into the pits and Clivio moved up to the front of the pack to lead the race for one lap. On Lap 17, Clivio took to the pits for a fast pitstop and returned to the track in 7th position behind Jani where he stayed until the end of the race.

Race leaders Rosberg and Kovalainen continued to distance themselves from third placed Prémat with Carroll and Speed behind battling for fourth place. The local driver spun at Stowe losing a valuable track position as the race neared its conclusion.

On the final lap, Carroll suffered a puncture exacerbated by his earlier off-track excursion which handed Clivio a further track position. The Monegasque driver crossed the finish line in 6th position behind Neel Jani.

Clivio:
"I'm pretty happy with my result today! I made a good start and from the beginning, managed to hold my own in the pack behind Jani, Speed, Lopez and Pantano. As the laps went by and everyone else was pitting, I moved up to fourth position and then gained P1 so I pushed to put in the fastest laps I could before my own stop. The team made a good pitstop so I managed to come back out again just behind Jani and spent the rest of the race behind him as we were pretty much running at the same pace. The car was really reliable today and this result puts us in a good position tomorrow. Starting from the second row, we have a good chance for a podium finish and I'm looking forward to getting out there again tomorrow and picking up more points for the team."
