PODIUM AT HOME GRAND PRIX

Great Britain's Adam Carroll finished 3rd in the GP2 feature race at Silverstone. An on- grid drama looked as if Carroll may not even start after a spark plug hadn't been attached and an oil leak caught fire near the engine.

But it looked worse than it was and no serious damage occurred.

"It's good to get to a podium and 8 points so far this weekend but it's just unfortunate we couldn't get to the chequered flag first. I know I did the best I could but we have a lot of work to do on the car" said the 23 year old from Portadown in Northern Ireland.

Whether it can be done before tomorrow is highly doubtful but Carroll hopes the break, and Paul Ricard test before the next round in July, will provide valuable time for Racing Engineering to make the necessary improvements.

"Tomorrow I think we'll have to take a chance if we really want to find anything else. It's a risk as we could be running things we haven't even tested but I'll discuss it with my engineer and see."

It was a hot, incident packed race with the safety car deployed three times after some spectacular crashes. Carroll lost the lead at the first corner to fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton who went on to dominate and win the race.
