Scuderia Coloni Ends GP2 Tests On A High
Today the Barcelona track hosted the last testing sessions of the GP2 pre-season, and for Scuderia Coloni it was another very positive day: the Italian team completed their work schedule, evaluating a lot of solutions that should prove useful not only for the season opener in Malaysia, but also for the rest of the season.
Today the team worked on set-ups using both the “prime” and the “option” compounds, and again their drivers were among the quickest in both sessions.
In the morning Fabio Onidi was in the top ten with a 1’29”679 that put him in ninth place: his laptime could have been a little quicker without a couple of little mistakes, but Fabio was happy with his overall performance.
In the afternoon, then, the team focused on the high downforce set-up with prime tyres, and in those conditions it was Stefano Coletti who shined. Making the most of a set of new rubber he had left, the driver from Monaco posted a 1’29”918 that brought him nearly to the top, in second place.
Paolo Coloni: “We leave Barcelona with the feeling that we really did a good job, trying many different things and getting the answers we were expecting in most of the cases. We worked well with both compounds, prime and option, in both high and low downforce trim, and looking at the six days of testing we did here and in Jerez we were always in the high part of the timesheets. I want to say thanks to the technical staff and to our drivers, everybody really gave their best. Now we have to keep this pace in Sepang, but considering what I saw in this long Spanish days I’m pretty confident”.
