Renault F1 Team Principal Flavio Braitore has said he believes the future of Formula One lies in following the example laid down by the GP2 series in 2005. Speaking at a Press Conference in Spa-Francorchamps, he said:

"Technology is important, everyone has technology. In GP2 we have technology and it is only a question of the way you package it. The GP2 series costs only a percentage of what Formula One costs. And I don't know what the difference is? We talk every year about all these technologies and things like that and in the meantime we have the spectators walking away from the television, in that time we have less spectators in the grandstands."

Asked how he thought Formula One could bring the fans back to the sport, Flavio's answer was simple.

"I see people enthusiastic to see the GP2 series." he said. "I don't understand why the GP2 series costs 2.5 million and our team and other teams cost maybe between three and five hundred million. I do not see what is the difference? What I really want to see is Formula One more human, have a better show for our public and not spend this money we spend. Because for me, you see the race of the GP2 series and the race of Formula One and maybe next year the difference of the GP2 series to Formula One is only four or five seconds!"

Formula One, said Flavio, had removed itself from its fans, while the GP2 series had aligned itself far closer, with more exciting racing.

"Really, I don't know what is the magic about our racing (F1)?" he concluded. "But I see a lot of magic in the GP2 series."
