The Rapax Team finally rounded out its long and successful 2010 season at Abu Dhabi, with the closing collective test of the year. Two days of testing were held at the Emirate's venue, to round out this season's GP2 Series activity.
The test confirmed the great shape and the really positive attitude of Rapax, as the squad clocked impressive laptimes with 21-year-old Swiss Fabio Leimer, who stayed in the leading pack all-time long. Fabio was entered in both days, while Davide Rigon and Charles Pic shared the second car. Both of them were prevented from displaying their full potential due to diverse issues, though the team was positively impressed by their contribution over their stints.
Rapax will now face a demanding winter. Despite the suspension of all racing activities, the whole crew is already working hard in planning their job for the next season. The 2011 is set to be tough, since all teams and drivers will be running a completely new Dallara racecars on Pirelli tyres.
Andrea Bergamini, Managing Director - "Overall, we're largely satisfied with the outcome of the final 2010 test. We had the chance to work a lot with Fabio Leimer, and discovered he has a stunning potential. We were surprised by his speed skills, his resolve, and the ability to deal with the team. He's been constantly at the top of the timesheet, slowed down just by some mechanical woes that made the scheduled work slightly more difficult. Unfortunately, Davide Rigon experienced some engine issues that heavily conditioned his run, despite it was a fresh motor, and he also encountered some heavy traffic. Charles Pic suffered a lot too, because while he was trying to get a good seat position he ended up with a strained muscle. In spite of all the pain he felt in his left leg, he kept running, proving to be a true professional."
