In a perfect weekend thus far for Nelson A. Piquet, the Brazilian took the victory in race one of the GP2 Series at Hungaroring circuit in Budapest, Hungary. German racer Timo Glock came in second in front of Italian Giorgio Pantano.

Piquet proved that the half-second edge he had after the qualifying session to second on the grid yesterday was for real, as today he dominated the action in the opening race for GP2.

"Everything worked perfectly. We had a very good start, the car worked really great from the beginning of the race to the end. From the middle to the end I just kept constant, without pushing too hard and keeping it tight. That's how every driver wants to do a weekend, and that's how I wish to finish the championship, to drive like that every time", Piquet commented after the podium.

With this victory and Lewis Hamilton's finish in tenth place for no points after a start from 26th spot, the Piquet Sports driver reduced the Brit's lead from 25 to 13 to tighten the gap in the title chase. "I can still win the championship and I still hope to win it", stated the winner.

The fight becomes more dramatic tomorrow as both drivers will start close to each other, with eighth for Piquet and tenth for Hamilton.

"I expect to do a good start tomorrow, gain a few positions, and slowly slowly overtake car by car. But you never know what can happen", Piquet explained.

Glock had another superb performance in the car of iSport International and the German achieved the podium for his third consecutive race after second and first place in his home race a week ago in Hockenheim.

"The car was quite good, not on the pace as Nelson. I think he was on a different world in today's race but I think tomorrow we will have a chance but at the moment they're flying around and everybody else is on the same pace", he noted.

The former F1 driver started from ninth on the grid and thanks to a great first move and a strong pace was able to snatch the podium.

Far away from the title fight after a poor season start, Glock has a clear target for tomorrow's sprint race: "It's good in the championship to fight against Alex Premat and get maybe third position in the standings from the weekend".

Third place was for another racer that started the race from the fifth row as Pantano moved to a podium position from tenth on the grid.

"Our problem hit us yesterday because we tried to change because the set up was not very good, so to be able to come back I thought was very good. We did a very good start and you know, we finished on the podium", Pantano mentioned.

The Italian from FMS International broke through also with a steady pace and the right pit strategy to advance important places.

Tomorrow at 10.00 local time will have place sprint race of the weekend to 28 laps and a distance of 123kms. After eighth place today, Argentinean José María López will try to use the advantages of the first position in the grid to snatch his first season victory.
