Brazilian driver Nelson A. Piquet came up with the fastest lap time on day one of the final test session of the GP2 series at the French circuit of Paul Ricard after José María López lost all his times when his car was found to be underweight in scrutineering.
The journey had 24 drivers on track as the teams continue to test different names that will be present at the opening round of 2006.
Piquet completed 25 laps with the car of his father's team, Piquet Sports. On his best attempt the former British F3 champion set 1m15.799, leaving behind German driver Timo Glock, in the champion team ART Grand Prix, who stopped the clock on 1m16.069. Today was the first time that the former F1 and Champ Car driver sat in a GP2 series machine.
Despite the good job done on his first appereance in the series, Glock won`t have the chance to continue tomorrow as Lewis Hamilton will take his position in ART`s car.
Third place belonged to the Italian driver Lucas Di Grassi in the Dallara-Renault of the Durango team. Grassi, Macau F3 Grand Prix winner this season, set 1m16.139 in front of Andreas Zuber in fourth and Borja García in fifth position.
