Stefano Coletti and Scuderia Coloni lighted up the second race of the Hockenheim GP2 weekend with an amazing recovery that brought the Monegasque driver from P20 to 8th place.

In a very eventful first lap that saw Razia spin and cause some mayhem, Coletti found the right gaps after an amazing getaway, and at the end of first laps he was already 10th. Then thanks to a great pace Stefano continued his recovery up to P8 and took the flag just inches from Cecotto and Palmer.

Unluckily, after the race the Stewards communicated that both Coletti and Palmer had passed Kral under yellow flags and so Stefano was given a 20” penalty that dropped him to 19th place.

Fabio Onidi shared the same bad luck: his start was good but he got involved in the chaos caused by Razia spinning at the hairpin and as a consequence he broke the nosecone of his car and got a punctured tyre. Fabio pitted to change the nose and the tyres, but his race was ruined and despite a good pace he couldn’t do better than P22.

Paolo Coloni: “We are really disappointed because again things didn’t come together for us despite a very good pace. Stefano’s start was just amazing, stuff that you don’t see very often. He did a really good job and even if the penalty was a pity it’s something that can happen when you are so committed to recover.

Fabio was just caught in the hairpin chaos and he can’t be blamed for that. His race was completely ruined but at least lapping in clean air he showed that our pace was really strong. We’re happy that Budapest will come just in one week time, we’re already focused on the next challenge”.
