The new class started yesterday with the first collective tests of the season at the Paul Ricard HTTT. It was the first time for drivers and teams to try out the new-look car and to begin the work that will lay the foundations for the new season to start in Bahrain on April, 13th.

For the first test day, the 13 teams made their first data gathering exercises with the new car on the 3D track solution (3.853 km), well-known to most of the drivers. Italian Giorgio Pantano (Campos Grand Prix) set Wednesday's best lap time in 01:13.889.

During the second test day, drivers used for the first time the fast 2A track solution (4.087 km) with no chicane. The use of a great part of the long Mistral straight allowed the teams to conduct aero-mapping exercises with the new aero-kits and to experiment the new rear wing assembly for some of them. Brazilian Lucas di Grassi completed today the best lap time in 01:09.768.

Each minute on the track is very important for all teams who prepare the 2007 season, and thanks to the unique safety concept of the Paul Ricard HTTT, the drivers completed over 11,600 km in 2 days.

The next test session of GP2 Series at the Paul Ricard HTTT will take place on March, 15th and 16th.
