The last test session at the Paul Ricard HTTT

The last GP2 Series collective test session took place this week at the Paul Ricard HTTT.

The objective of this four-day session on the French track was to test new drivers for the next season. Not less than 59 drivers drove for different teams looking to find a seat for the 2008 GP2 Series. Drivers used the 3D track solution (3.853 km) during the 4 days.

After two days with cloudy weather, teams had a great sunshine for the end of their testing. They completed over 29, 360 km and Andrea Zuber with Super Nova International (cf. photo) set the best session lap time in 1:12.584.

It has to be noticed this test session is an important one in the three years of the GP2 Series, because it is the last time that the current GP2 Series car is driven in Europe, before to flow out to Dubai for the new GP2 Asia Series, next January. Next year, the European serie will have a new car, GP2/08, replacing the one launched in 2005 at the Paul Ricard HTTT.

During this 4-day session, a woman driver took part for the first time at a GP2 Series test session: Swiss Simona De Silvestro set the 22nd lap time on Thursday afternoon with Campos Grand Prix.

GP2 Series will be back at the Paul Ricard HTTT the 28th February for a new collective test session, with the new GP2/08.
