For the final GP2 Main Series test prior to the season opener

Ocean Racing Technology definitely left behind the mechanical issues they encountered during the first round of testing at the Paul Ricard, the Portuguese team carrying out an extremely promising test session during the final week of winter testing prior to the opening of the GP2 Main Series Championship. After having spent the first day polishing up their set up and catching up on time wasted during the opening round at Paul Ricard, Ocean Racing Technology finished the final two days of the session in the top three, thanks to Fabio Leimer.

The Swiss driver recorded the 3rd best time of the final timed session of the winter season, setting a best time that was just three hundredths of a second shy of the best time recorded, despite his difficulty in having to modify the set up of his single-seater according to the variable weather conditions. Fabio was also the best rookie of the session and all the lights are green for the 2010 season that gets underway in less than a month's time. "I am very happy with the results we gathered during these last three days,"explains Fabio Leimer, "We worked a lot and at the end of the first day we had already found a solution to most of the question marks we had. After that, the car was fine tuned and got better and better. I was at the top of the pecking order on the second day but I made a slight mistake which made me drop to P3. Having said that, I really liked the way the car reacted to all the different set-ups we used. We did a race simulation and we also did several pit stop rehearsals, which are a key factor of a race weekend."

Meanwhile Max Chilton also did a very good job with the 8th best time in this final test session, finishing half a second down on his teammate and the best time of the day. The English driver showed constant progression and put in a solid performance throughout the three days in Barcelona. The 18 year old racer adapted quite well and quickly to the single-seater which is the closest one to an F1 car, as well as with his team. "They were three days of intense work and we are still improving, getting better each lap," said Max Chilton, "But there is still a very long way to go and the first races will be crucial for the team and for my personal experience of the GP2 Main Series. The last test in Barcelona, I was much more confident and I think we are on the right track. We need to do even better in Barcelona for the first race weekend but I think we have the potential to have a nice season."

Tiago Monteiro has also drawn up a positive assessment of these three Spanish days. "The team has put in a lot of effort and it has paid off both in the behaviour as well as in the speed of the car. Communication and operations are also better inside Ocean Racing Technology which is only in its second year in the series. We are much more experienced and you can feel that in every step and especially in our performances on track. To have two rookies on board is a challenge but it has motivated every single team member and we leave Montmelo with some very valuable data which will help us to get ready for the first race,"declared one of the two directors of Ocean Racing Technology.

The 2010 GP2 Main Series Championship will open its doors in Barcelona, on May 7, in the Formula One European opener.
