Ocean Racing Technology tests in Abu Dhabi
Portuguese team finishes the year among the fastest
Ocean Racing Technology concluded four days of testing on Sunday where they were able to put seven different drivers through their paces on the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. Throughout the eight sessions, the Portuguese GP2 team gathered some very important data with their 2010 single-seater. Team manager, Tom Davis, has now drawn a positive assessment of the work carried out in Abu Dhabi. "This week has been very productive. We gathered a lot of data that will be precious when it comes to preparing the 2011 season in the best way. We were constantly among the top 10 and better, but we must not build castles in the air because the single seater we will run with next year will be different because the GP2/08 will retire after this test. Having said that, Dani Clos' 3rd fastest time is encouraging."
On the first day, Sam Bird and Nicolas Marroc were behind the wheel of two Ocean Racing Technology single-seaters. The Englishman provided the first signs of competitiveness for the team by taking 7th place while the following day Dani Clos finished 3rd for the Portuguese squad. On Saturday, Ocean Racing Technology worked with Karun Chandhok and in addition to the former Formula 1 driver, the team also counted on the contribution from Venezuelan racer, Rodolfo Gonzalez and their experience was very useful when it came to redefining the basic adjustments. On the final day, Armaan Ebrahim and Brendon Hartley were invited to put the finishing touches to the team's 2010 tests. The New Zealand driver concluded the year very well by securing the 6th best time.
More important than the overall times, the past week in Abu Dhabi was an opportunity of intense testing before the first session of the GP2 Asia Series, which will take place at the beginning of February. For Ocean Racing Technology, it was also a good chance to try out several experienced drivers from many different backgrounds.
The directors of Ocean Racing Technology, Tiago Monteiro and Jose Guedes justify their choice to call upon so many drivers. "Priority number one was to analyze the performance of several drivers whose pedigree we find interesting before deciding who will defend our colours next year. We ran with different drivers from different backgrounds with different experience. We put ourselves into the top 6 and the 3rd fastest lap times clocked by Dani Clos give us a clear indication on the team's evolution" Tiago Monteiro explained.
A few days before the tests of Abu Dhabi, the 2011 single-seater carried out its shakedown on the circuit Paul Ricard, in France, where the team put Karun Chandhok's experience to good use. The next test will take place in Abu Dhabi, on the 2nd and 3rd of February, 2011.
