Trident Racing drivers Pastor Maldonado and Kohei Hirate completed a positive qualifying session at the Nurburgring, ended without technical troubles. The two will start tomorrow`s Race 1 respectively in 8th and 14th position. Despite not being able to find good reference points due to the heavy rainfall that conditioned the free practice, Maldonado and Hirate clocked their best times with the first tire set, but didn`t manage to get faster in the closing stages. The Venezuelan shown once again a good grip with the car, earning a fine top-10 spot after a bringing on good progression. Race 1 will be broadcasted LIVE by the satellite channels Eurosport and Sky Sport.
Pastor Maldonado - 8th place (1:41.963, 15 laps)
"I`m moderately satisfied from today`s session, that was surely better than the one had in Silverstone. I scored the second fastest time with my first set of tires; then, a small set-up change made while in the pits didn`t pay off as we expected, so I wasn`t able to improve my bast lap and keep position. I strongly believe in a good result tomorrow, as the car is well-balanced and the Nurburgring is one of the racetracks i know better."
Kohei Hirate 14th (1:42.368, 13 laps)
"I`m not very satisfied with my grid spot. The day started in a great way, with a lap time, clocked in wet conditions, fast enough to propel me in the top-5. In qualifying, a good lap with the first set of tires made me hope for a top-10 position, but, unfortunately, an annoying understeer kept me from improving any further. I hope to reach a points finish in tomorrow`s Race 1"
Graziano Michelacci (Maldonado Race Engineer)
"I don`t think that a spot in the first three rows was in our range, but, in the end, we`re not too far from that. Today`s 8th place allow us to hope in a good result as, apart from Pastor`s talent, race strategy will come into play"
Stefano Alessi (Hirate Race Engineer)
"Kohei really improved his performance, especially if compared with the one seen at Silverstone, and that was what the team expected from him before this weekend. A top-ten would have been perfect, but something was yet missing in the final minutes to keep the position. I think that everything is working fine in order to have a good race tomorrow and see Kohei score his well-deserved first seasonal points".
