Podium in Germany for Britain's Adam Carroll
A tremendous drive from Adam Carroll saw him gain his first podium of the season. The 23 year old finished a strong 3rd stealing the position in the final corners of the race. After starting from 7th on the grid it, the Racing Engineering driver led for several laps before pitting last on lap 16 of the 35 lap race. He emerged in 7th position but that is when the race really begun.
A fantastic battle with Nelson Piquet Jr saw the gap fall to just 0.1 between the two drivers for many laps. Just after Adam passed Nelson, the Brazilian suffered a blow out and crashed heavily into the tyre wall. Adam didn't settle for 4th though and continued to push, eventually passing Jose Maria Lopez on the final sector of the circuit, just meters before the chequered flag.
"I am delighted to get my first points and podium of the season. Hopefully this is the start of things to come. The car felt really good and after the problems I've had until today, the team has worked so hard to get us to this point," said Carroll from Portadown in Northern Ireland.
"After the pit stop, I came out and saw I was behind Nelson and I thought this is going to be interesting! And it certainly was. I really looked after my tyres and was able to push the whole race. I wasn't that quick at the start of the race but by the end the balance and everything was perfect and I was really on the pace."
Tomorrow Adam starts from 5th, due to the top 8 finishers positions being reversed. But he's never afraid over overtaking and despite the Sunday race being a shorter sprint race with no pit stops, last year Adam started 22nd and finished 2nd.
"Let's hope for more of the same tomorrow. I'm collecting pretty good memories of this place!"
