Today's Feature Race at Monza proved to be a disappointment after Javier Villa's excellent performance in yesterday's Qualifying session when he set the 9 th fastest time.

It rained heavily shortly before the start of the race and there was intense activity on the grid as the teams switched to wet tyres and modified the set ups of their cars. Although the rain stopped shortly before the start of the race there was a lot of standing water all around the circuit and it was decided to start the race behind the Safety car to allow the drivers a chance to check the conditions.

After three laps the Safety Car pulled off and the race got under way. As the cars entered the braking area for the first chicane there was a great deal of spray in the air and visibility was virtually zero, Javi found himself unable to see the cars ahead and he made heavy contact with the rear of Zuber's car. The damage to both cars was heavy and they were both immediate retirements.

Following the accident the Stewards reviewed the incident and Javi has been excluded for the rest of the meeting so he will not take part in tomorrow's Sprint Race.

Javier Villa's own words:

"The start was difficult as there was a lot of water. I braked at the 250m mark, 80 before where I used to brake in free practice but I was almost inmediately over Zuber's car. I feel sorry for him and also for Petrov who was also damaged. What happened today is one of those things in racing, you have to take some risks. It has been quite a tough year, very different from the preseason expectations when things were looking good. But we have to be positive, learn from the mistakes and start already preparing next season."
