An unexpected brake problem caused a spin that prevented Javier Villa from being higher than 23rd in today's qualifying session at Monza.

After some good setup work in the early morning free practice session, Javi was running well at the beginning of qualifying, being placed around 13th position when, arriving at the braking point for "Variante Ascari", the brakes of his Dallara didn't operate as he expected. The rear end of the car suddenly went out of shape and Javi couldn't avoid the spin that left him off the track without any chance to continue.

A heartbreaking end for a day that was seemingly going quite well for the young Spaniard and his team, Racing Engineering, on a track as fast and difficult to master for a newcomer as Monza.

The brake problem that ended Villa's run is already being investigated by his team in order to fix it for tomorrows race when Villa is starting from the 12th row of the grid. His aim will be to gain as many positions as possible in order to improve his chances for Sunday race. To help him in that, Villa will have an extra set of fresh tyres, the ones he didn't use today after missing the second part of the qualifying session.

Javier Villa's own words:
"In the fastest chicane at the braking point I lost the rear and had a spin, and that was the end of qualifying for me. When I spun I was thirteenth I think, and I probably would have been about fifteenth or sixteenth, but now we need to work hard tomorrow. We have a spare set of tyres, so we'll see."
