FAUZY STILL IMPROVING TAKES 11TH PLACE, GREAT RACE OF LOPEZ BUT RETIRES AFTER BEING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR

Monza, 4th September 2005

Fairuz Fauzy took 11th place of Sunday's sprint race and showed progress again with 1 second per lap improved times compared to yesterday. One more time Fairuz arrived in a track he did not know and from 23rd on the grid after Qualifying on Friday he finished the weekend close to the top 10.

Jose Maria Lopez who started from 22nd place today due to his early retirement yesterday did an impressive race before he was pushed out by another car. Lopez passed 8 cars in the first half the race and was catching 12th place car with 10 laps to go.

Fairuz Fauzy : "It was a good race today. The car was better than yesterday even if the switch of the brake balance broke so I could not adjust it exactly as I wanted. Any way I could go faster than in the long race and I am satisfied with this result. I was catching up the cars in front of me, I managed to pass Lauds and I was faster than Garcia. I have now the experience of Monza and I look forward coming back here."

Jose Maria Lopez : "The car was good, with light oversteering, I managed to pass quite a lot of quick cars. I passed Vilander in Ascari and I made a gap of approximately 30 meters. When we arrived on the first chicane I saw him on my mirrors missing his braking, I let him some space but unfortunately he hit me. It was over."

Next event : Spa (Belgium 10th & 11th September)
