Premat clinches third place in championship

Saturday, 09 September 2006

"Finishing fifth in race one at Monza secures my third position in the championship. It wasn't an easy race, as I didn't get the start that I wanted. I was behind Lewis Hamilton and Adam Carroll and then suddenly my engine cut out. Pereira dashed ahead of me and Pantano was in the lead of the race. Luckily the car started again, but Pereira had already passed me. Last night's rain, did not do any good to the track conditions and they were also different than I expected.

I had a reasonably early pitstop on lap 9, but we had problems again as we looked into the problem that cost me at the start. The car was hard to drive for the remaining 23 laps and I had a lot of understeer. I fought hard and was back up to sixth as the safety car came out and I managed to eventually climb up to fifth although I was constantly under attack from Ammermueller and Glock.

Overall, I'm pleased with the result because I collected more points from a difficult starting position and after a difficult race. Tomorrow I'll start from the second row and will be looking to finish the season with another win. The start will be important again but I'm confident we have the pace to at least get a podium, if not another win."
