Mónaco - Without doubt, today could have been a great day for Sergio. He flew through the streets of Monaco, taking the fastest lap in the race, but a mistake at the start, left him with no chance of success.
The Spaniard, who usually makes great starts, stalled his car so, in the second restart after the big accident in turn 1, he was starting from the back of the grid, with very few chances to progress due to the narrowness of the track. However, when he was in clean air, after his pit stop, he showed he was the fastest on the track by grabbing the fastest lap, in spite of finishing 15 Tomorrow Sergio will start from the seventh row, Monaco is always unpredictable, and Canamasas showed in Barcelona that nothing is impossible so he doesn’t discount finishing in the top 10th.
Sergio Canamasas: “For me this was a very strange race as one minute I was out of the race after I stalled and then because of the red flag I was back in the race which was good news but mentally challenging.
I was pushing hard but it is just so impossible to overtake here and I got some damage on my front wing when I tried.
It is really disappointing as I got fastest lap even with damage to the car so who knows what could have been.”
