Monaco Qualifying -- Perera 2nd in qualifying after setting the pace in the morning's free session. Monfardini quick in first session had traffic problems in qualifying.
In today's GP2 free & qualifying sessions Franck Perera and Lewis Hamilton offered to the Monaco public & F1 teams & guests a fantastic fight for the lead. In the first session of the morning both drivers were the only ones setting times under 1'22 and the DAMS driver took finally the best time. In qualifying the lap times were improved by more than 1 second, setting higher standards than expected by anyone and Franck finally took his second front row of the season, 2 tenth behind Hamilton.
Franck Perera : "It is a great satisfaction to be one more time in the pace. This is a difficult track and we managed the sessions quite well with a good strategy. It was a fantastic fight with Hamilton, our target was the pole and we could do it today. I pushed hard, I haven't had the perfect lap so this is positive to be on the front row in Monaco. I want to thank the team who gave me a great car. Now we need to see our level of performance rewarded with points after the problems of Nurburgring and Barcelona"
Ferdinando Monfardini : "In the free practice I was really happy with our session, we managed to set a quick time without taking risks. In qualifying I had traffic problems all the time, it was really frustrating. Most of the time I improved 2 sector times on every fast lap but there was a slow car in the final corners in the area of Rascasse, I had to brake as it is impossible to overtake there and then the laps were over. I have the car to be competitive here so we will try something tomorrow, the race will be long and the strategy will be crucial."
