Top ten Bakkerud signals his intent

Starting from the seventh row on the grid in the first of two races at the Monte Carlo Grand Prix today, Danish racer Christian Bakkerud managed his best result in the GP2 category to date by taking a very respectable 10th position. Bakkerud improved his lap times all the way through the 45 lap long race and kept out of trouble completely despite many incidents involving other cars and some close calls.

A relieved Christian spoke straight after the race -- "It's like a weight has lifted from my shoulders. After not having been able to race in Turkey and knowing that my back wasn't 100% but perhaps 95% okay I am very pleased to have finished today and in a decent position. Again I took a step forward today and am pretty sure I would have managed slightly better had I not got stuck in the queue behind Giorgio Pantano's car after he was spun around at Mirabeau by Sebastien Buemi. Some cars managed to slip past and there was some pit stops while we had to wait in the queue for the marshals to clear the mess."

"I did not feel any twinges from my back today and I know that I'm very fit as my lap times kept improving and I was as quick as the 3rd and 4th place guys which has boosted my confidence a great deal. Now I'm looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully another good race and some points!"
