ROMAIN GROSJEAN VICTORIOUS, VITALY PETROV 2nd.

SUPREME DOMINANCE OF BARWA ADDAX TEAM IN GP2 SERIES

After yet another one-two, Barwa Addax Team has taken a strong hold on the championship. Romain Grosjean won the first race which took place this morning at the Montecarlo street circuit. He was perfectly supported by his team-mate Vitaly Petrov, who came in behind him in second place.

The race had very few incidents to report and the only bright lights came from the Barwa Addax Team, as the two drivers dominated the race in spectacular fashion from start to finish. Both drivers kept setting fastest lap times in a head to head that no other driver was able to join in. It was a tremendous team performance.

There are few superlatives left to describe Romain Grosjean after repeating his incredible performance in Barcelona, where he achieved pole position, fastest race lap and race victory. Romain got off to a great start ensuring that he maintained his lead out of curve 1, and from then on he started to set fastest lap times with only his team-mate Vitaly able to keep up with the pace. He opened up a big gap over his rivals which meant he was able to come in for tyre change with 24 laps to go. He got back on the track in second place just behind Di Grassi, who made his pit stop on the following lap, leaving Grosjean back out in front. From this moment on the French-Swiss driver had a great battle for the lead with his team-mate, Petrov. They took it in turn to set fastest lap times. Finally it was Grosjean who took the spoils, including fastest race lap time, and finished victorious with his Russian team-mate a meritorious second.

Vitaly Petrov has been a worthy rival. He kept his position at the start holding off various rivals. He was the only driver capable of keeping up the pace set by Romain. He even managed to produce fastest lap times more than once. He came in to change tyres with 25 laps to go after a good pit stop. He came back on the track in third place and started his private battle for the lead with his team-mate. In a race where he didn't put a foot wrong, the Russian driver managed to build a gap over his rivals and finished in a comfortable second position.

The overall classifications are completely dominated by the Barwa Addax Team. In the team ranking they are way out in front with 46 points, 30 points clear of their closest rival. The drivers are first and second overall in the driver's championship with Romain Grosjean in front on 31 points, followed by Vitaly Petrov on 16 points and D'Ambrosio on 13.

Tomorrow the 2nd race will take place with the first 8 drivers from today, starting in reverse order. The race will start at 16.00 hrs and will be over 30 laps.
