LOPEZ BACK AT THE TOP WITH 2ND PLACE AT MAGNY-COURS

After the disappointing weekends of Monaco and Nurburgring DAMS was aiming a top result for our national Grand Prix. After his 2nd Place in Qualifying Lopez did exactly what the team expected from him and the 8 points taken in this 1st race in France is placing him back in the top 5 of the championship.

The start of Lopez was OK and he stayed just behind Premat, but Kovalainen arrived from the back with a perfect start and took the lead. With 3rd place early in the race and a lot of laps to go the team decided to control the position until the pit stop. Lopez came in to change his wheels before mid race and nearly passed Kovalainen who stopped at the first lap of the Safety Car on track (mid race after a car stopped in the pit straight). The final result was decided at that moment, Premat and Rosberg stayed on the track during the safety car procedure and lost the benefit of their lead after their mandatory pit stop, and left Kovalainen and Lopez finish at the front far ahead.

Fairuz Fauzy did one more time a great start and passed 2 cars, but he complained with oversteering and braking problems and finally took 14th place.

Jean-Paul Driot : "Jose did a great job, he was safe and fast and he did an intelligent race, the team was also very good for the pit stop, I am satisfied with 2nd place after being most of the race in 3rd place."

Jose-Maria Lopez : "It has been a good race for me and I am happy with this result. I think we had the best strategy and the team did a good job. It was possible to win today but Heikki had a good pace in old tires and we were not the fastest today, then it was important to be safe and take big points. Tomorrow I want to score more points and this weekend will be perfect. Our performance is very good on new tires and today we need to find a little more speed on old tires."

Fairuz Fauzy : "We did some changes between qualifying and race and the car was not as good as yesterday. I was slower, especially in chicanes, then our pit stop was not very good. I tried to pass a car at Adelaide hairpin but I lost the rear of the car and finally I lost 2 positions. I look forward tomorrows' race and to have again a very good car as I had for qualifying."

Sunday Race - 28 laps - start at 10H00 (Live on Eurosport)
