Coloni Motorsport drivers, Gimmi Bruni and Mathias Lauda, had a very difficult Race 1 at Magny-Cours Circuit. Bruni did not jump at the start due to a clutch problem and was forced to join the track on last position. Then Bruni was one of the fastest drivers on the track and took the best lap of the race scoring two points. Mathias Lauda finished in 16th position after a good race. The 24-years old son of Niki Lauda was very constant and determined and has been improving lap by lap.
Gimmi Bruni: "At the start, I had a problem with the clutch: when I left the clutch paddles, the clutch did not work properly and the engine stalled. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of time and I went back on race in last position. After 1 lap I came to the pit for the scheduled pit stop: we changed all the tyres and when I came back on the track I was very fast. I tried to breakthrough some position and when the Safety Car entered I was just behind my team mate Mathias Lauda: I was able to overtake him during the lap 30 joining the 15th position. Then, together with my team we decided to change tyres in order to score the best lap of the race, as we did. I was happy because, after I missed the start, it was really good to take two points for the championship. The car was performing well and we improved a lot from qualifying. I suffered only some problem with the brakes, but now I am much more confident for tomorrow race. I think we found that performance we were not able to reach yesterday in qualifying."
Mathias Lauda: "It wasn't a good race for me. We have been doing like a good test during the race because of my starting position. In fact, we all expected an hard race and it was. But the set-up solutions we tested worked well and it was good to finish the race in 16th position and collect much data. I suffered only a wheel spin in the quick corner, because of lack of down force. Now, I am looking to doing a good race 2."
Paolo Coloni: "Considering the problem at the start with Bruni, It was a good result to take the best lap of the race and consequentially two points: It was very important both for the Drivers standings and for the Teams Championship and this paid also the great race which Bruni did. Unfortunately, the start destroyed his race but the car's performance was better than in qualifying: I am confident for race 2. On the other side, I want to point out that we still suffered too many problem with the car: the reliability is still a question mark and we need to solve this. Mathias Lauda had a very difficult race due to the starting position: he did a good race and overtook Borja Garcia and Can Artam finishing in 16th position. We have been testing new set-up solutions which proved to be good. I expect to see Mathias in a better final position for tomorrow race.
The Race 2 will start at 10:00 (local time).
