Premat ready for home race
Nevers-Magny-Cours - Thursday, 06 July 2006 - Magny-Cours is just a few days away and it feels like I haven't driven for ages since the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
We did test on June 27-28 in the middle of our racing break as the F1 tour was in Canada and USA. The GP2 series test took place on the usual 3.853km track formation of Circuit Paul Ricard in France. We worked mainly on race simulations and between us the 26 drivers drove nearly 12,700 km during 2 days! We never stopped and in fact it was the first opportunity for our team to run any serious testing programmes, other than during the race weekend practice sessions. We worked hard on preparations for Magny Cours but also looked to the rest of the season. I also visited the team HQ near Paris and we worked closely with the engineers on preparing the rest of the season.
For the rest of the break I hardly had a break! I kept up with my daily physical training which is really important in the hot summer conditions. My sponsors and partners Mercedes and Sendin have also kept me very busy. I have some good experience of the Magny-Cours circuit already and am quite familiar with the track. You need good brake stability there.
There are plenty of wide run-off areas which means you can take quite a few risks as a driver. Traction is also important, particularly out of the last corner. So I'm well prepared and feeling optimistic for the weekend ahead in France.
I'm third in the championship after the British rounds with 36 points - Nelson Piquet Jr is second with 46 points. I'm more ready than ever to move forward at the France Grand Prix. I hope I'll succeed just as well as the French football team has for now.
