Super Nova racer Jose Maria Lopez has dominated the final GP2 Series season tests held at the Circuit Paul Ricard Hich Tech Test Track of Le Castelet, located in southern France.

The Argentinean set 1m13s728 during today`s morning session and that was enough to control the top spot until the end of the journey that was ran under good weather conditions but hot temperatures.

"I`m happy of being back at the top in Paul Ricard. We worked a lot with the team looking for the best set-up in the car. We were able to complete the test program with no problems and now we must wait for the next race to come knowing we should be ahead to discount in the championship", Lopez commented.

"In the morning we could set the fastest laptime and in the afternoon I was in a flying lap to improve it with new tyres but I made a mistake and I couldn`t reach Piquet`s time. I`m happy with the car here and I hope we can show it in the next races", he continued.

However, the best lap time clocked by Lopez wasn`t enough to improve his own overall best lap time nor the series record on this same track which was 1m12s547, set during the March tests.

Nelson A. Piquet has given his championship aspirations a huge boost after he clocked second best with a laptime of 1m13s774 in the afternoon and closing session. Former F1 driver Timo Glock confirmed yesterday`s performance being the fastest with today`s top three and a time of 1m13s845 in the iSport International car.

Rookie Andreas Zuber from Trident Racing took fourth quickest with 1m13s892 and Venezuelan Ernesto Viso was fifth as the last racer able to pass the 1m14s barrier.

DPR Direxiv driver Cilvio Piccione showed a strong pace taking sixth in the overall, followed by Gianmaria Bruni in seventh, with the other machine of Trident Racing. Eighth place belong to local rookie Franck Perera, with Lucas di Grassi and Adam Carroll closing top ten positions.

Standings leader, Lewis Hamilton, finished the day in 11th position and a time of 1m14s310 in ART Grand Prix car.

Drivers essentially did race simulations at the the 3D track solution of 3,853 km, competing nearly 12,700 km over the two days. Thanks to the particular concept of the run-offs and the lightening system of the Paul Ricard HTTT, the test days were totally optimized as only very few incidents interrupted the sessions.

GP2 series will remain in France to continue their competition this season on Friday, July 14th at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in another promising weekend of a good show and head-to-head battles for the victory.
