Good GP2 Debut For Ceccon In Barcelona

Kevin Ceccon boasted a surprising GP2 debut performance in Barcelona today. The Italian driver, who at 17 became the youngest driver to have ever contested a GP2 event, clinched P17 in qualifying, managing to stay ahead of much more experienced drivers.

It was really an amazing performance, as GP2 is a very complex car, renowned as the entry step to Formula One, and Ceccon's rivals are some of the most gifted drivers in motorsport. In such an environment, Kevin had just 30 minutes of Free Practice to get acquainted with the car, but despite this he was right on the pace in qualifying, posting a 1'31"670 that was just 2 tenths adrift from sixth row.

Tomorrow, at 4PM, Kevin will take the start of Race 1, having to cope with race strategy, tyre degradation and even a mandatory pit-stop, and experience he already did in Monza one week ago in the Auto GP race. His aim is gathering experience, but as always Kevin will be ready to grab any opportunity the race should bring.

Obviously, my primary aim is still putting miles under my belt.

Kevin Ceccon: "I’m really happy, also because looking at the laptimes just a one tenth improvement would have been worth 3 or 4 places on the grid. I was on the same pace of guys that have much more experience than me in GP2 and on this car, and considering that in the morning we worked a lot with a full tank I feel ready for the race. Obviously, my primary aim is still putting miles under my belt".
